How to response the query: “Why are you interested in this post?”

How to response the query: “Why are you interested in this post?”

What can I say at the interview, when they ask, what is the attractive position that you are applying for?

If you think this is a question from the “warming up” series, then to some extent you are right. For most HR staff, this is a way to make conversation easier, so you relax and remember everything you rehearsed the day before. But, depending on what you say, the answer may alert the interviewer or give reason to doubt your candidacy. Do not be too lazy to think in advance what to say so as not to lose your chances. Below are a few good tips.

1. DEMONSTRATE AN UNDERSTANDING OF POTENTIAL CHALLENGES

Some exciting monologue is not expected from you. Usually, candidates begin to explain how their own experience relates to this vacancy, and in general the answers sound more or less standard. But the interviewer’s tenacious mind is able to detect alarming signals of ignorance and immediately turn a positive perception into a critical one: “Ha! And she is sure that she understands what this work consists of? ” This happens when you start to paint in colors how excited you are in anticipation of the task, while this task is only a small part of the proposed work or has a very indirect relation to it.

Job descriptions often look as if they were specially designed to be confusing, especially if you have little experience. Therefore, make sure that you read it several times and carefully enough (and once again – just before the interview) to prevent such mistakes.

2 AND SERIOUS INTEREST IN THEM

If the interviewer asks why you are interested in working, it is important that you at least look interested. This seems obvious, but personnel department staff constantly complain that candidates’ answers often sound as if it’s important for them to get any job, rather than proceeding with specific tasks. Of course, this may be true, especially if you really need income. But keep in mind that your interlocutor is looking for someone who is enthusiastic about the proposed role, which implies quality work with full dedication.

3. DO NOT GIVE THE APPEARANCE THAT YOU ARE FLATTERED TO GET INTO THIS COMPANY

If in vacancies you are most interested in the brand whose employee you want to become … come up with a different answer. The employer wants to hear what attracts you to everyday tasks, because if you are hired, most of the work will be related to the performance of actual duties, and not with the company in general. A company may just have a fantastic reputation, but it would be better if the interviewer does not notice that you are overly excited by possible success.

4. LINK THE ANSWER TO YOUR CAREER

A good answer to the query “Why are you attentive in this job?” not only explains what you like about your new position, but also how it fits into your career. This is especially true if the work differs from the previous role; you apply for work in a different field or decide to go down.

No need to go into long explanations – prepare a sentence or two to reveal some context to the HR employee.

5. DO NOT SAY THAT THIS IS A STEP FOR YOU TO NEW PERSPECTIVES.

When explaining how a job matches your track record, try not to hint that this is just a stepping stone to something more. In the end, perhaps this is exactly what the career is doing, but the interviewer needs to make sure that you will be satisfied with the job that you have been applying for, at least for several years. A candidate who wants to move faster up or down as quickly as possible, the personnel officer will clearly not please.

6. WHAT IF YOU ARE NOT TOO INTERESTED IN THIS POSITION?

Sometimes the reality is that you really are not interested in a job, but you really need money. So, you have to turn on the actress and pretend that this position is attractive to you. For inspiration, try to imagine someone who could love such a job and that this person would answer the question. And better try to discern in it what you really might like. It’s not so easy to come up with reliable and sincere motivation, but at the same time you don’t need to show a passion for copying or sending emails. If you really do not see anything in this vacancy that at least somehow catches you, try your luck elsewhere.
